Risks and Responsibilities of Parachuting
by Para-Phernalia, Inc.
Risks of Parachuting
- Parachuting causes deaths and serious
injuries
- According to 1990 U.S. Parachute Association
statistics 0.9 fatalities occur for every 100,000 sport skydives.
- Parachutes do not always open properly.
Parachuting equipment can fail even when all possible precautions are taken
by you, the equipment manufacturers, and everyone else involved with your
parachute.
- Failure to activate your parachute or
execute emergency procedures at a safe altitude, and/or equipment failures
can result in serious injury or death.
In addition, it is also the user's responsibility
to:
- Receive proper training before using any
Parachuting equipment.
- Be extremely careful and cautious. Be
prepared. Read and understand all owner's and operations manuals for
the parachute equipment.
- Thoroughly check all parachute equipment
before each use.
- Review emergency procedures before each use.
- Check equipment warnings - DO NOT
exceed limitations. Never violate the training and experience
requirements for the specific equipment in use. Never be
overconfident.
- Completely understand that, despite all
precautions, parachute use is dangerous and can result in serious injury or
death.
- Never allow others to use, rent, or purchase
parachute equipment without first making sure that they are aware of the
risk and responsibility, and are completely familiar with the equipment and
are trained in the use of the equipment.
