New
A new hardware version of the MRX was introduced in late 2008. The
buttons on the front of the unit are different than in previous versions.
The photo above shows the new version. The photos below are of the
previous version. We have only the latest version in stock.
Overview
PCAS, which stands for Portable
Collision Avoidance System, is a trademark of Zaon Flight Systems for
technology similar in function to TCAS (Traffic and Collision Avoidance
System). TCAS is the industry standard for commercial collision avoidance
systems. The original PCAS technology was developed in 1999. Now, the MRX/XRX
line of collision avoidance systems incorporates the fourth generation of
PCAS technology. Through this technology, transponder-equipped aircraft are
detected and ranged, and the altitude is decoded. PCAS G4 technology has
advanced to the point that highly accurate range, relative altitude, and
quadrant direction can be accurately detected in a portable, all-in-one
cockpit device.

MRX PCAS (Portable
Collision Avoidance System)
PCAS MRX
is the world’s smallest collision avoidance device, yet sacrifices none
of the features upper-end systems have become known for.
MRX is half the size, 1/3 less price,
portable and offers better accuracy and many more features than any
other "ATD" device.
Zaon PCAS systems: the best portable
collision avoidance systems on the planet. Why would you fly without it?

Why would you fly without traffic
info?
Don't let the tiny size fool you
Sure, it's small. At 2.5” (65mm) W x 4.2” (107mm) D x 0.6” (17mm) H,
MRX is smaller than a deck of cards. But don't confuse its size with its
capabilities. MRX uses an easy menu-driven interface and audio
annunciations for traffic advisories and alerts. The unit boasts a built
in solid-state altimeter for "always relative" altitude information, and
built-in temperature compensators and overtemp protection. Information
is displayed on the high-brightness LED display (dimmable). MRX also
monitors aircraft bus voltage and host transponder output.
It's no wonder MRX has fast become the
best-selling collision avoidance system in aviation.
Features galore
MRX displays range and relative altitude of the closest threat, with
continuous monitoring of the top 10 threats within the 5 NM scalable
detection window. Altitude detection is scalable up to +/- 5000 ft.
The unit is powered by aircraft power (12-40 VDC adapter included) or 2
"AA" Batteries (with 8+ hours of use).
Traffic alert!
In addition to the display, traffic that gets too close for comfort sets
off two levels of alerts: a traffic advisory and ultimately, a traffic
alert. Both levels are announced both visually and audibly. MRX contains
a built-in beeper for in-cabin alerting.
Get alerts directly through your headset with our new audio output
feature and audio cable, included with every MRX. Easy to use, the
simple cable allows you to hear the advisory and alert tone through your
headset or intercom system.
Attention-getting without being annoying, both alerts can be instantly
muted with the mute button. After all, what good is a device you learn
to tune out or ignore?
Tough as nails
The MRX housing has been reengineered using state-of-the-art
polycarbonate material capable of taking abuse and keep on working. In
fact, the material is so tough that after repeated drops from 15 feet,
MRX kept on working without so much as a scratch. And the smoke-color
semi-translucent material looks great sitting on your glareshield.

1NM

MRX-Ant-Ext |
MRX Antenna Extender -
For MRX Only
The perfect answer to remote-mounting your MRX antenna, or if you do
not want to permanently mount a dedicated antenna on the outside of your
aircraft. The antenna extender is a 9 ft. super-thin RG-174 coaxial
cable with a female Reverse-SMA connector and suction cup mounts on one
end, and a male right-angle Reverse-SMA connector on the other.
The extender is connected to the antenna connection on your unit, and
the cable is routed to a side window or other unobtrusive location. The
stub antenna that came with your unit is placed on the end of the
extender (antenna not included with extender). |

XRX PCAS (Portable
Collision Avoidance System)
 |

 |
|
Digital Range |
Relative Altitude |
Quadrant Bearing |
PCAS XRX is the world’s first and
only stand-alone portable device to sense aircraft direction from within
the cockpit. XRX displays “3-D View” quadrant bearing information, as
well as relative altitude and range, all from inside the cockpit and
without the need for external antenna arrays.

Size comparison to the Garmin 296/396. XRX is shorter and much narrower.
The detection window is scalable with a maximum range of 6 NM, and
altitude of +/-2500 feet. The tiny unit is only 3.9” (100mm) wide, 3.6”
(93mm) deep, and 2.7” (69mm) tall. The majority of the height is for the
enclosed antenna array. XRX tracks up to 10 aircraft and displays the
top three threats with all three axis of information. Close traffic is
announced by two levels of voice alerts.

Following in the footsteps of previous
models, the traffic information accuracy is the best in the industry.
Range is accurate to 0.2 NM on average, and altitude to +/- 200 ft. The
unit displays the local squawk code, altitude, and bearing. The
easy-to-read LCD display boasts large numerals and EL backlighting for
night operation. All parameters are controlled by an easy-to-use menu
system.
XRX includes many built-in sensors for razor-sharp accuracy, including a
pressure altimeter for relative altitude accuracy, a solid-state
16-point compass for bearing accuracy, a solid-state attitude and bank
sensor for bearing accuracy, temperature compensators and overtemp
protection for accuracy in any environment. The unit also monitors
aircraft bus voltage and host transponder operations and is powered
through aircraft power (12-40 V compatible). All traffic data is output
through a built-in RS-232 data port.An installable upgrade will also be
available.
Zaon PCAS systems: the best portable collision avoidance systems on the
planet. The first to give relative altitude. And now, the only device
with quadrant direction. Why would you fly without it?
Technology
XRX uses all-new, highly specialized technology to sense and display
traffic as accurately as many higher-priced, installed systems, but all
from within an ultra-compact unit designed to sit on your glare shield.
XRX is not dependent on Traffic Information System (TIS) data but works
independent of external systems. To see how this technology works, visit
The Technology page.
Compatibility
XRX was designed to sit atop the glare shield of your aircraft.
Because different aircraft shapes and designs can present unique RF
signatures, we have developed an
Aircraft Compatibility Guide to simulate the reception quality
around each type of aircraft.
