Overview
My goal is to help soaring pilots get the most out of their soaring tools.  The training products on this page are designed to help you:

  • Get the most out of your soaring instruments or software
  • Learn about features you were not aware of
  • Spend less time learning how to use new products
  • Spend less time re-learning how to use products you haven't used for a while
  • Know the products well before you fly so you can concentrate on flying rather than learning your software in flight - which can be very dangerous.

Easy to Use
These training CDs are extremely easy to use.  Simply put the CD into your PC and the menu should run automatically.  Click on the files in the menu to view the video clips.  If the does not run automatically then use the Windows File Explorer to browse the CD and run the executable program ending in ".exe" found in the root directory of the CD.

Support Over the Phone or Web With Free Web Conferencing - Very Popular - One-on-one
I offer support over the phone on many soaring software topics for $40/hour.  What we cover is up to you.  It includes free web conferencing features.  Details are available here: Support Over the Phone

Updates
I am hopeful that customers will send me suggestions on tips that I did not include in a particular training CD.  I will then add the new tip to the training.  Therefore the CD you buy today will include fewer training tips than newer versions sold in the future.  Upgrades can be purchased at any time for $9.95 plus shipping for any of the CDs listed below.  The cost covers the effort of building the CD and processing the order.

Licensing

  • Many hours go into the creation of these training packages. I am working hard to earn a living by providing useful resources for glider pilots.  Please do not use copies without purchasing a license.
  • Each CD or DVD and license is for a single person only and cannot be re-sold.
  • Below is an overview of the work involved in creating a training.
    • Create a list of training segments
    • Use the screen capture software to create a rough draft of the video
    • Create a word-for-word script for the video
    • For some videos I create a PowerPoint presentation
    • Practice recording the training session using the script several times
    • Record the video using screen capture software and a microphone.  This can take many tries to get it right and is the most time consuming part of the process.
    • Use the video editing software to edit out mistakes and pauses.
    • Add introduction and ending screens to the video
    • Build the final compressed video
    • Create an interactive menu for the CD
    • Build the executable menu and generate the necessary files for the CD
    • Create a CD label
    • Burn each CD and print each label as orders are received

Technical Support
If the video clips on the CD will not play on your PC it may be that you need to install the video decoding "codec" onto your PC.  It is very small and easy to install.  I don't believe manual installation is necessary, but use the link below if you encounter any problems.

Support-Phone Support Over the Phone or Web With Free Web Conferencing - One-on-one - Very Popular

Accelerate your learning curve!  Get up-to-speed on your new soaring software or instrument in an hour or 2 - with help from an expert.

I offer training over the phone on the soaring software topics listed below for $40/hour.  What we cover is up to you.  It includes free web conferencing features as described below.  I will bill you for the minimum time period of 1 hour ($40) and if we don't use it all I will make a note of the amount of time remaining for you to use in future support calls.  1 hour is usually plenty to get most people on the right track.  Phone charges are not an issue as I will call you.  After you place the order, please call to schedule a time for the training.  The best time for me is usually between 9 AM and 5 PM, or between 9 PM and 11 PM U.S. Central Time, Monday through Friday, but other times can be arranged.

Customer Feedback

"Thank you, Paul, for your marvelous support.  Not only is your website a fabulous source of information for glider pilots, but you've been unfailingly responsive to my hardware and software needs.  Last but not least, I've gotten much more out of my equipment as a result of our remote-tutoring sessions by cell phone and computer hook-up.  Thanks again!"

Paul,

"Now that the soaring season is over, I wanted to thank you for another wonderful year of support from you in connection with my soaring activities.  It's been wonderful knowing that you are there to help with technical problems, and I love the opportunity to have remote tutoring sessions with you.  Thanks again, very much."

Skype
If you want to call me for free you can reach me using Skype.  It is a free internet phone service that requires only a high-speed internet connection and a microphone and speaker for your computer.  You can download it free here: http://www.skype.com.

Web Conferencing - Included - Free of Charge
I include free web conferencing with all technical support calls.  I use a free service called Adobe ConnectNow.  It makes it easy to connect our computers and (with your permission) view your screen.  I have been using web conferencing a lot lately for one-on-one training/support sessions.  I can talk you though a software download or soaring software feature and you learn from the experience because you do the work while I watch.  I can also take control of your machine (only with your permission) to do complex tasks more quickly.  The web conferencing is amazing.  It is as if I am in the same room with the you, looking over your shoulder (at the PC screen only - no need to comb your hair or get out of your pajamas).  There is no need to install software at your end.  I use this service during nearly every phone support session I do - several times a week.  To connect to my computer using Adobe ConnectNow, go to: https://connectnow.acrobat.com/paulremde.

TrainingCD-PPC Pocket PC Training CD, Version 1.02
This training tool is designed for soaring pilots that are new to Pocket PCs.  However, some of the tips will be valuable for even experienced users.  The training CD consists of a menu with links to many short training videos.  The introduction includes an overview of terminology and tips.  The remaining videos are short narrated computer screen-capture videos which walk you through common tasks.  I recommend going through all the videos in order and then re-viewing segments as necessary.  The CD is a great spring refresher course to help you remember what you need to know before getting back into your glider in the spring.
Total Running Time: 24:39
System Requirements - This CD runs on a PC with a screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels or more.

New - Free Low Resolution Versions Available Online
I have made full length, low resolution (320 x 240 pixels) versions of all the Pocket PC Training videos available online.  You can view them free of charge using the links below.  If you find them useful and would like to support my efforts (creating them was a lot of work), and you would prefer to view them at full resolution (800 x 600 and 332 x 504 pixels), please order the training CD at right.  To see what the full resolution videos on the CD look like (they are much nicer at full resolution), try the Tap And Drag Video (Full Resolution).

This is a comprehensive training course for users of SeeYou software for the PC.  The training disks include several menus with links to 44 training videos which vary in length from 1 to 10 minutes.  The videos are narrated computer screen-capture videos which walk you through common tasks in SeeYou.  I recommend going through all the videos in order and then re-viewing segments as necessary.  The training package is a great spring refresher course to help you remember what you need to know before getting back into your glider in the spring.

System Requirements
The computer data CDs run on a PC with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels or more.  It will not play in a TV DVD player.

New - Free Low Resolution Versions Available Online
I have made full length, low resolution (320 x 240 pixels) versions of all the SeeYou Training videos available online.  You can view them free of charge using the links below.  If you find them useful and would like to support my efforts (creating them was a lot of work), and you would prefer to view them at full resolution (1014 x 636 pixels), please order the training CDs at right.  To see what the full resolution videos on the CDs look like (they are much nicer at full resolution), view the Overview (Full Resolution) and 3D View (Full Resolution) videos.

SeeYou Training Script
The file below is the script used to create these training videos.  You may want to print it and refer to it while watching the videos - or simply use it as a reference when using SeeYou.
SeeYou Training Video Script

Update
These training videos were created in January of 2006 - and yet they are still nearly perfectly current.  The only major change is the recommended sources used for U.S. airport and airspace data.  I therefore no longer recommend the "Waypoint Wizard" part of video number 9 below.  The Waypoint Wizard imports out of date airport data for the U.S.  The great news is that there are some great free resources available for generating airport and airspace data for SeeYou for the U.S.  I have documented how to use them in my SeeYou Tips document - which is available here: SeeYou Downloads.
