Overview
I offer more than just soaring instruments, books and software.  I have become an expert at using many soaring instrument and software products.  I often help customers install their soaring software on their PC or PDA.  I also have customers send their PDAs and PNAs to me so that I can install soaring software, waypoints, airspace, maps, etc. on their device for them.  In addition, I now offer barograph and flight recorder calibrations and can reset the electronic security seal on flight recorders that have become "un-sealed".

Support-Phone Support Over the Phone or Web With Free Web Conferencing - One-on-one or in groups of up to 15 attendees - Very Popular

Accelerate your learning curve!  Get up-to-speed on your new soaring software or instrument in an hour or 2 - with help from an expert.

I offer support over the phone on the soaring software topics listed below for $40/hour.  What we cover is up to you.  It includes free web conferencing features as described below.  I bill you for 1 hour at the start of the first session and you use up the time in your account by the minute.  If the first call is only 30 minutes long, you will have credit for 30 minutes for future calls.  1 hour is usually plenty to get most people on the right track.  I will call customers in the USA (I have free long distance).  Customers outside the USA will need to call me, or use the free Skype option described below.  After you place the order, please call to schedule a time for the training.  The best time for me is usually between 9 AM and 5 PM, or between 8:30 PM and 11 PM U.S. Central Time, Monday through Friday, but other times can be arranged.

Customer Feedback

"Thank you, Paul, for your marvelous support.  Not only is your website a fabulous source of information for glider pilots, but you've been unfailingly responsive to my hardware and software needs.  Last but not least, I've gotten much more out of my equipment as a result of our remote-tutoring sessions by cell phone and computer hook-up.  Thanks again!"

Paul,

"Now that the soaring season is over, I wanted to thank you for another wonderful year of support from you in connection with my soaring activities.  It's been wonderful knowing that you are there to help with technical problems, and I love the opportunity to have remote tutoring sessions with you.  Thanks again, very much."

Skype
If you want to call me for free you can reach me using Skype.  It is a free internet phone service that requires only a high-speed internet connection and a microphone and speaker for your computer.  It is the best option for customers with high-speed internet connections-  anywhere in the world You can download it free here: http://www.skype.com.

Web Conferencing - Included - Free of Charge
Adobe Acrobat Connect is a fantastic web conferencing service to which I subscribe.  The standard hourly training fee includes the use of this service - it is free for the customer.  I have been using it a lot lately for one-on-one support sessions.  With the customer's permission I setup the system so I can see that they are doing on their PC.  I talk them though a software download or soaring software feature and they learn better because they do the work.  I can also take control of their machine (only with their permission) to do complex tasks more quickly.  This service is amazing.  It is as if I am in the same room with the customer, looking over their shoulder (at the PC screen only - no need to comb your hair or get out of your pajamas).  It also allows me to hold web conferences with up to 15 attendees at a time.  It could be used to do group training in which I walk through software features on my computer and all the attendees can view what I'm doing on their PCs.  There is no need to install software at the customer's end.  When you connect through a web browser a very small utility is installed in a few seconds.  I use this service during nearly every phone support session I do - several times a week.  The service also includes phone conferencing so that we all call a number and be connected together (long distance phone charges apply - or you can use Skype which charges very low per/minute rates for calls to land lines).  To connect to a conference in progress go here: http://connect.acrobat.com/cumulus

PDAorPNA-Setup PDA or PNA Setup  - Very Popular
Are you looking forward to flying with your new soaring flight software, but a bit intimidated by the process of installing it and setting it up on your new PDA or PNA?  Send it to me - I'll get it up and running and back to you in no time.  Below is a list of some of the items I do to get your PDA or PNA ready to fly.  I use a checklist to make sure I don't forget anything.

Setup Items

  • Set backlight to brightest setting and change settings to it does not or dim when the unit is powered with external power
  • Set power settings to the unit does not power-off in flight
  • Set Calendar and Clock to your time zone
  • Enter pilot name, phone and e-mail into the PDA's owner screen - so the unit can be returned to you if lost and found
  • On iPAQ 310 units - install the screen rotate driver if "portrait" mode is desired (recommended)
  • Install the desired soaring flight software onto the device
  • Enter your license key into the soaring flight software
  • Enter data for your glider into the soaring flight software (polar data, N#, Contest #)
  • Create waypoint, airspace and map files for your favorite soaring site or sites and store them on the device and/or memory card (first 3 sites included, $10/each for additional sites)
  • Set font sizes and other settings in the software to good sizes for the particular PDA or PNA type
  • On PDAs I use the built-in backup utility or Sprite Backup ($19.95) to backup the PDA settings and files to the SD memory card.
  • When you receive the device it is ready to go flying

Supported Products

  • Glide Navigator II
  • SeeYou Mobile
  • pocket*StrePla
  • LX Navigation Colibri
  • LX7000, LX7007, LX8000

Recommendation - Have me help you setup your PDA or PNA over the phone!
As an alternative to having me setup the PDA or PNA here at my office, I often recommend phone support.  You keep the PDA or PNA with you.  I call you and connect to your computer so I can see your screen.  I then walk you through the software installation and waypoint, airspace and map file generation and general PDA setup.  The advantage is that you don't need to pay to ship the PDA both ways, and there is no waiting for it to ship.  But the biggest advantage is that you learn how to do the PDA setup while we do it together.  That way it serves as both support and training - so you can do it yourself in the future.  It usually takes 1 to 2 hours of phone support to get the PDA setup.  Therefore, it costs about the same as it would to ship the unit to me, have me set it up here and ship it back to you (about $80).
