I stock 2 sizes are RAM parts. The A size parts use 9/16 inch
(14.3 mm) diameter balls and the B size parts use 1 inch (25.4 mm) balls.
Be careful to select all A or B sized components when you order because A
size balls will not fit in B size arm ends, etc.

What Does the "U" in the part number mean?
The "U" at or near the end of the part number stands for "unpackaged". The parts are delivered in a simply plastic bag - rather than in more expensive plastic store display boxes. I stock and sell only the unpackaged (plastic bag packaged) parts because they are less expensive. Note that assembly part numbers do not end in "U", but they do contain parts that are provided in plastic bags rather than store display boxes.

"The RAM-HOL-GA14 fits the GPS-96C just fine, and two of the three ports
on the back are available when the GPS is in the mount (the antenna port
and the USB port). However, the serial port (the round Garmin plug) is
covered by the mount. To access it without repeatedly flexing the mount
to remove and reinstall the GPS, one would have to cut a section out of
the back between the lower two mounting holes, right where it says
76C/76CS on the inside face of the mount. Due to the odd orientation of
the plug, the cutaway must be flared to the left as you look at the back
of the mount to accommodate the cable which goes down and to the left as
you look at the back of the GPS."
However, The owner of RAM sent me a response to the statement above, "I
have a GA14 on my boat with the serial cable and it works fine."
They must be using different serial cables... |

I have used the PD2 cradle with a variety of PDA in my glider cockpit
for many years. The rubber tips on the fingers hold the PDA very
securely. However, I just received a cradle and was setting it up for a
customer and found that the finger tips were slippery and did not keep
the PDA from sliding. I talked to RAM about it and they said that
sometimes the release agent used during the molding process causes this
problem. They suggested washing the fingers with a mild soap.
That seemed to work great for me. If you receive fingers that
don't seem to hold the PDA securely, try washing them. If that
doesn't work I will replace them. |

excellent low cost and secure mounting solution for most naked (no CF
Card GPS or large battery or expansion pack) PDAs. PDA power/data
connector is accessible between the fingers on the bottom of the cradle.
The top set of fingers are mounted on a spring loaded slider that allow
the cradle to accommodate a wide variety of PDA heights. The side
fingers are mounted in slots so they can be adjusted for a wide range of
PDA widths. The side finders are mounted using nuts and screws
that are accessible from the back of the cradle so they can be
adjusted easily. Mounting holes on the back can accept any

"A" sized mount is significantly smaller than the large "B" sized mounts
below. The base plates have the same footprint, but the arms are
very different. I recommend this "A" sized mount for
light
applications. The "B" sized mounts are nice when a longer reach
and more rugged arm is
desired (most soaring applications).
Warning!
Most people find that the "A"
sized components work fine for holding a Pocket PC or small FLARM
display in an aircraft or
automobile. However, I have received a significant number of complaints
about the rubber balls detaching from the bases. I therefore recommend the larger "B" sized arms for
most soaring applications. In fact, one customer temporarily lost
control of his sailplane when his PDA cradle fell off the RAM A arm and
jammed the control stick. The issue is caused by clamping the arm
down too tightly on the balls - causing them to deform and separate from
the base.
I have never heard of a RAM "B" size arm component failing. |

This is a very stiff flexible arm. It is not are rugged as the
GNeck2 Gooseneck. The overall length from
base to base is 7.75" (19.69 cm). It consists of two plastic
diamond shaped mounting plates and a metal (aluminum I think) rod with a
plastic cover. It is stiff enough for use holding a Pocket PC or
GPS without any drooping under severe loads (loops, hard landings,
etc.). Since the rod is made of metal, it is not meant to be bent
to extreme positions very many times. Like any gooseneck it can be
adjusted using one hand. If it is too long you can bend it into an

The arm has a socket at either end to allow a 1" diameter ball

When loosening the side screw, a single spring inside the arm opens the
socket for maneuvering of the mount, or removing of the ball from the

This is a very stiff flexible arm. It is not as rugged as the
GNeck gooseneck. The overall length from
base to base is 6.38" (162 mm). It consists of two plastic
diamond shaped mounting plates and a metal (aluminum I think) rod with a
plastic cover. It is stiff enough for use holding a Pocket PC or
GPS without any drooping under severe loads (loops, hard landings,
etc.). Since the rod is made of metal, it is not meant to be bent
to extreme positions very many times. Like any gooseneck it can be
adjusted using one hand. If it is too long you can bend it into an

Suction Cup Base,
Plastic, Locking
3.25 diameter suction cup base has a rotating locking mechanism that
pulls a strong suction for secure adhesion to the mounting surface.
Compatible with any diamond-shaped mounting plate (RAM-A-238, RAP-B-238,
RAM-B-238, RAP-105-6DD, etc.). This mounting base has a smaller
diameter than the RAM-B-224 rubber suction cup, but it is taller. I
prefer the RAM-B-224 rubber suction cup mount because it is easier to
mount, won't damage your canopy, and is shorter. This mount is nice,
however, if you already have a RAM-A-101 arm and want to temporarily
mount it to a flat surface. Weight: 2.6 oz (74 g)
Note: I prefer the RAM-B-224 rubber
suction cup mount
to this suction cup mount because it is easier to mount, can't damage
your canopy, and is less tall.
Note: The RAP-224-1 suction cup pulls a very strong suction so you
may not want to use it on an expensive glider canopy. If you
decide to use it, I am not responsible for any damage to your canopy.
That said, I have used it on glider canopies safely using a trick.
Before you apply it to the canopy, turn the locking ring halfway through
its rotation. Then press it against the mounting surface and turn
it the remaining distance to lock it in place. If it doesn't mount
securely enough, try only turning the locking ring 1/4 turn before you
apply it to the mounting surface, etc.
Note: If you use suction cups to mount items to a club owned or
syndicate owned glider canopy, please be considerate and clean the
canopy when you are done flying. If we don't do this simple step
it is likely that the club will ban the use of suction cup mounts -
which would be a shame. |

The High Strength Composite Semi-Permanent Adhesive Mount Base
consists of a 2.5" diameter flexible base with a standard RAM double
hole diamond plate end. The base includes a

size) balls because it is a medium length, light weight due to its
plastic construction, and inexpensive.
The swivel action is very nice. There are times when a
standard RAP-B-201 arm can't be positioned as desired because the "leg"
attached to the ball can only go to one or the other side of the arm.
This swivel arm has a joint in the center that allows the 2 ends to be
set multiple positions. Don't think that it is not strong because it is made of plastic - it
is very rugged. The arm has a socket at either end to allow a 1" diameter ball
(size "B")
accessories to be connected. A tightening screw on on each end of the arm
